The MA•PEQ is a high-quality, compact, single-channel, combination mic-pre / equalizer. The microphone amplifier is a new design providing the most advanced analog circuit topology without the limitations of integrated circuit technologies. The signal path uses our discrete GKL514 op amps biased for 60V operation providing high-power, wide dynamic-range performance and a clean tone with just a touch of colour. Gain control is provided in 4dB steps using a Grayhill 12-position rotary switch. With the available 20dB pad and +6dB boost, the MA•PEQ offers between 0dB and 68dB of gain.

The filter section is modeled after the famous Pultec PEQ1. The low frequency is selectable 20, 30, 60 or 100Hz with both “cut” and “boost” potentiometers allowing for the distinctive Pultec “cut before boost”. The Mid-High, selectable between 3k, 4k, 5k, 8k, 10k, and 12kHz, provides a boost and an available Q control. The high frequency attenuation band is traditionally only a LPF at 6dB per octave selectable at 10k, 15k, and 20kHz. The MA•PEQ adds an additional frequency (25k) and a switchable +6dB shelving filter, providing much more control over the high frequency contour. When filtered by the high frequency attenuator, this +6dB shelf allows for peaking curves in the high end giving a new dimension to this classic filter. This passive filter and its make-up gain can be bypassed via a “true bypass” path when not in use.
